A Workshop for Self-Discovery

Open to beginners and non-beginners; age 18-35

August 12th-15th, 2009

After a busy semester of study, it's time to take a break. Put all your concerns aside, make the time and space to fully relax, and recharge your mental and physical batteries. In this space of inner investigation, you can discover more of who you are, and who you are not.

In this 3-day workshop, learn the basics of sitting, walking, working, and eating meditation, and practices of living daily life with awareness. In the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere of DDRC, you will also learn simple ways in which to reconnect with the natural environment and appreciate its miracles, by being present with yourself and the world around you.

Dharma talks will be given that explain the practice, and there will be time for discussion and sharing, to strengthen one's connection with friends in the practice.

After attending this workshop, you'll be ready to attend Meditation Vacation, a more traditional retreat, with a simple daily schedule of silent meditative practices in stillness and movement.

Meditation Vacation:

A Chan Meditation Retreat

Open to people with basic meditation experience; age 18-35

August 15th-18th, 2009

How do we maintain the peace of silent sitting meditation amidst the busyness of daily life? Practice!

This retreat will give you the chance to apply Chan meditation techniques over a 3-day period, and thereby become more familiar with these methods as a way to calm and clarify the mind. With a clear mind, we can straightforwardly see our flaws as well as strengths, and can then take steps towards improving our character-making decisions that bring benefit to others and our selves.

From morning to night, and even during sleeping, you will learn to apply Chan methods in experiencing life fully, and awaken to the potential for being at peace in any circumstance. By becoming familiar with using Chan methods of practice on retreat, we learn how to take these methods home and make daily life a practice of meditation.

Dharma talks will be given to clarify the practice, and help you connect Chan meditation with daily life.

Begins: Saturday Aug 15th check-in 4:00-6:00pm

Ends: Tuesday Aug 18th 4:00pm

Fee: $40 Student / $120 Non-Student

Teacher:Chang Hwa Fashi
